The Bay of Roses, member of the Club of The Most Beautiful Bays in the World

Located north of the Costa Brava and formed by the towns of Roses, Castelló d'Empúries, Sant Pere Pescador and l'Escala, the Bay of Roses has the pride of belonging to the Club of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World.   Its excellent geographical situation facilitated the settlement of Greek and Roman colonies, which founded the currently archaeological sites of the Ruins d'Empúries and the Citadel of Roses.   Sant Pere Pescador, located in the centre of the bay, surrounded by the Fluvià river and protected by the Aiguamolls del Empordà Natural Park, has an extensive beach of dunes and fine sand of almost 7 km and preserves medieval remains.   Also of medieval style and the old capital of the County of Empúries, Castelló d'Empúries stands out for its beautiful narrow streets, the wall, the Jewish quarter and the jewel in the crown: the Basilica of Santa Maria, one of the greatest exponents of the Gothic Catalan architecture.
